Bonesteel's Posterous

Neal Krugman

Most everything is a mash up today, so I offer my own.

Never mind that today he basically called those in red states who benefit from government programs, yet jump on the Romney/Santorum bandwagon against any such programs as simply too stupid to realize they have say, received welfare.

If you read this, and consider the goofball named Gulbranson, you may think he has a point.  I think he needs to turn in his Tea Party t-shirt, but I digress.

If you look at Krugman sans staples here, and read down a few questions, you'll catch this bit -

PLAYBOY: So people in America today are suffering when they don’t have to be because of policy makers who won’t do the right thing?

KRUGMAN: That’s right. I’ve gotten some grief for my remark that if it were announced that we faced a threat from space aliens and needed to build up to defend ourselves, we’d have full employment in a year and a half. But that’s true. Why couldn’t we do that to repair our sewer systems and put an extra tunnel under the Hudson instead of to fight imaginary space aliens? Everybody in the world except us is doing a lot of investment in infrastructure and education. This is the country of the Erie Canal and the Interstate Highway System. The Erie Canal was a huge public infrastructure project financed with no private or public-private partnership. Can you imagine doing that in 21st century America? We really have slid backward for the past 200 years from the kinds of things we used to understand needed to be done now and then. And all of that because we are shackled to the wrong ideas.

Essentially, because of politics and those Gulbransons among us, we're scared to do the big things that would prepare us for the competitive future.  We've hand strung ourselves and limited our vision.

So here's the mash up.

Watch Neal Stephenson talk about it from the technology side of things.  The "anti-science people" who also tend to wear those types of t-shirts get scared and limit us.  It's not that I just finished his most recent book or loved his earlier one.

We should be doing the big things and striving for the positive themes sometimes seen in science fiction, not pissing around about contraception and eliminating safety nets for those who need them.

Nuggets of Friday "Wisdom"

The best quality of life investment in a house of 4 women is a larger faster hot water heater.

There is always someone behind ME in any auditorium who kicks my seat throughout any concert or show I am at.

There is no "debate" (note, Montclair High CGI SLC) if only one side of every issue is discussed.

Back to school concerts - Your iPad is a cool toy, but it is NOT an appropriate camera as it blocks everyone else's view. You are not that special.

You show me someone eating as they drive, and I'll show you someone who could stand to lose some weight.

Finally, and most important ( I've given this a lot of thought) -

At a meal table with others it is rude to use an electronic device of any type. That should stay in your pocket or purse until after. Your friends or family deserve your full attention.

So there.

Conservation of Craigslist Theory

The proceeds from any sale on Craigslist will invariably be redirected to another item of questionable worth. The net transaction will always be negative to the participant.

The security is stupid and the concrete around the base of the new tower is just plain sad, but one can not visit the site without getting a pain in your gut.
